Sin stinks
Sin is what is not of faith i.e. what is done in fear and in lack of trust in God. (Romans 14:23)
Sin comes in varying forms and sizes. You must have heard sins termed as big or small before.
Growing up going to church, I have heard it to be, lying, pre-marital sex, watching porn, masturbation, homosexuality, murder, adultery, dishonouring God, having idols in place of God.
Less emphasis is placed on worrying.
Isn’t a person worrying, acting in fear and not faith?
Sin is sin. And sin stinks. Sin draws you in and smacks you on the face, leaving you stranded
and alone. Sin can destroy relationships, destroy futures, steal joy and peace, give a false sense
of pleasure that lasts momentarily.
You must get may point now? Sin stinks.
You probably already know this. You’ve seen sin separate your mum and dad, result in suicide, leave people depressed, give you a high that lasts for seconds and then lace you with guilt.
Yeah yeah yeah, it stinks, everyone knows this but is there a way out? Isn’t it just part of life. Is there no solution.
I know a solution. Young and saved but laced with guilt, a psalm, Psalm 130 became my cry to God for a solution. I was like our homie Paul who stated in Romans 7:19-25 that he knew what was good and wanted to do it but fails and knew what was bad but still does it. “Helpppp?” The solution is Jesus.
He came to earth, lived a blameless life. The Son of God (mind-boggling right? I know), conceived of a virgin by the power of God. He was born to die, a sacrifice for the sin of mankind. He came to die, once and for all, once, for all. He died and then rose on the 3rd day. He defeated sin and death. He gave power to us to become children of God by placing our faith in what He had done, what He had finished. He is the solution for sin. Trust in Him is the cure for sin. Trust leads to becoming a new creation, becoming righteous, having dominion over sin. Having the ability to say no in the face of sin.
Don’t get me wrong, when you believe and receive Jesus, changes happen but not physically. With a mind that does not know what Jesus has
accomplished, one goes on sinning. Acting in fear. But with more knowledge and understanding of Jesus, life changes occur. Less sin, more fruit of the spirit bearing.
My point is this. There is a solution. There is a better life. It is one of freedom from the claws of sin.
